Education: Ph.D. Materials Science, University of Connecticut, 2025
Bio: Serzat received his BS in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in 2015. He then co-founded a startup focused on cryogenic processing of polymer granules for additive manufacturing, while simultaneously pursuing MS research on conductive inks. Following this, he served as a Research Assistant at ITU and later as a Visiting Researcher at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst through an EU H2020 project, where he contributed to semiconductor device simulation and cleanroom fabrication.
Serzat joined the group in 2021 as a PhD student, where his doctoral research was conducted as part of an AFRL-funded project focusing on AlScN using first-principles calculations. He also contributed to collaborative studies on 2D ferroelectric materials within the same project. He completed his PhD in December 2025 and is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate, with research interests in ferroelectric device modeling through DFT and phase-field approaches.
Current Research: Development of ferroelectric nitride-based materials for optoelectronic applications via atomistic and mesoscale modeling.
